Five Fridays for the price of four!  The first Friday’s free!

September 25th through October 23rd, 2009.

Sifu Rick Krause, a Tai Chi teacher for 35yrs., will teach the famous Chi Kung set ‘Ta Mo’s 18 Lohan’ exercises.  These enlightened (Lohan= enlightened in Chinese) exercises were developed by Bodhi Dharma (Ta Mo in Chinese) the first patriarch of Zen (mindfulness) Buddhism in China. The purpose of these exercises at that time (540 A.D.) was to help the Shaolin monks to improve their health, while improving their ability to meditate, and at the same time allowing them to defend themselves not by attacking, but by refusing to accept the delivery of harm.  These exercises are much of the basis for the famous Shaolin Temple Kung Fu martial arts; however our focus will be on the extraordinary health promotion properties of these ‘enlightening’ exercises.

Modern scientific research has repeatedly validated the efficacy of these exercises for improving posture, lowering blood pressure, reducing falls, improving sleep, enhancing libido, improving digestion, reducing anxiety, stimulating immune function, treating arthritis, improving flexibility, reducing stress, and slowing the effects of multiple sclerosis (cf. Taijiquan, Yang Yang, 2005, Zhenwu Pub., Champaign, Il.) Western science and eastern science agree that they are powerfully health promoting.

These 18 Lohan exercises of Ta Mo, handed down since the 6th century A.D., will be taught along with Taoist seated and 8 animal (Ba Gua) reclining meditations.

Beginners are welcome and no previous training is required.
